"This
written
recommendation left by Saint Vicenta Maria in
the first blank page becomes the cover of her
Exercises notes. But the sisters, at the death of
the Mother Foundress preferred to be faithful
to a long family tradition and kept all that they
found.
We owe the preservation of the
letters and documents concerning the ancestors
which
Don Jose Maria kept in Cascante,
to Mother
Mª Asuncion Carrera. She
survived
the fire and helped Mother
Foundress in the reconstruction of the paternal house in September 1888.
From this moment the
documents were kept in the Mother House ( Madrid
) until 1936. The imminence of
the Civil War ( 1936-1939) forced the sisters to put
them in
archive.
The war ended on
October 20, 1939, Mº Presentacion
de Maria Ruego, on the request by Mother
General
Mª de San Luis de Caso, communicated to the houses of the
Institute how lucky the congregation had been

Las supongo ya enteradas, de las misericordias que el
Señor nos ha hecho, al poder conservar todo lo más
principal de cuanto a Ntra. Venerada Madre pertenecía,
desde los documentos y papeles más importantes hasta
las páginas de palotes y primeras letras de su niñez.
I suppose that you
have been informed already of the mercy that the
Lord has done to us, in preserving all, many
belonged to Our Venerable Madre, from the most
important documents and papers until the last pages
of her childhood notes and letters.
Este
baúl de los escritos se llevó a una casa de toda
confianza, pero en los primeros días de la revolución,
sin previo aviso, lo encontraron devuelto, temiendo
indudablemente los Sres. pudieran comprometerles.
This chest
containing the writings was brought to a house with
all confidence, but in the first days of the
revolution without prior notice, it was given back
to the sisters, since the owners of the house
without doubt, feared the consequences.
Lo
que parecía una contrariedad, resultó un beneficio
del Señor, porque siguiendo en aquella casa, el baúl
hubiera desaparecido; este juntamente con los otros
que se guardaban sus ropas y otros varios objetos de
la misma procedencia, fueron trasladados al salir la
comunidad de casa, en aquellos momentos trágicos de
la revolución, a un piso; pero en los varios
registros que hicieron, se llevaron los baúles en número
de cinco, a la Dirección de seguridad, quedando por
algún tiempo, hasta que un día un muchacho que allí
estaba empleado, vio que se disponían a quemar cuánto
en aquellos había por parecerles cosas de ningún
valor. Este muchacho, reconoció la procedencia, por
los letreros que en los paquetes había, dando cuenta
a su familia, al cual averiguando las señas de tres
buenísimas colegialas, que haciéndose las
propietarias, buscaron un carrito y lo depositaron en
el sótano de la casa que una de ellas habitaba, no
sin antes hacer poner un sello, en cada uno de ellos
que acreditara ser depositados por la Dirección de
Seguridad, esta fue la traza maravillosa de que
Nuestro Señor se valió para que nadie pudiera
tocarlos."
What seemed a
setback, turned out to be a blessing from the
Lord. Having the chest in that house, it would
have disappeared. Together with the things where her clothes were kept and other various
objects of the same origin, were transferred from the
house, in those tragic moments of the revolution, to an apartment; but in various registrations that they
made, they brought the chests at number 5, the
address of the Security, remaining there for some
time. Until one day a young boy who was working there, saw
that the authority was ready to burn something which seemed to
be without value. However, this young boy recognized the origin by the signs in the packages
and told his family. At the same time three young women were
doing inquiry and looking for signs about the
whereabouts of the chests. When they came to know
about it they looked for
a cart, took and deposited them in the basement where
they lived, putting a seal in each of them authorize to be deposited by the Office of
Secutiry. This was the marvelous plan that our Lord
took advantage of so that nobody could touch them.
Three servants :
Amparo Martin, Consuelo Perez and another one saved the
precious
legacy.
In 1945, Mother Mª
Asuncion Jaen directed the work of book-binding
the greater part of the papers, which was carried
out by Mª del Carmen Busó and Mª del Carmen
Sabater.
With the transfer of
the Curia General in 1959, the papers passed
from the Mother House in Madrid ( Fuencarral Street
97 to Rome ( Via Palestro ), and ultimately, to the
new seat of the Curia General ( Rome - Via Cassia )
where they are kept nowadays.
