Brief
summary of the origin of the educative labor

In the year 1862, when Vicenta Maria just
completed 15 years of age, she started to
collaborate in the charitable and social work
founded by her uncles, to insure the
moralization of the domestic service by means of
welcoming, formation and instruction of the
young servants girls.

On the 11th of
June 1876,
Vicenta Maria, founded the Congregation of
the Religious of Mary Immaculate with the aim at
guaranteeing the continuity of the Work started
by her uncles, to pay attention to the young
girls who were displaced from their homes where they
came from to serve in the womb of the families in the
big cities, youth that were disoriented and
exposed to the marginal and criminal activities.

Throughout
this time,
the apostolic work of the Congregation of the Religious of Mary Immaculate consolidates in its
three aspects of:

WELCOMING of the servants
girls, workers, office workers and students.

Human, Christian and
Professional Formation
-
Accompaniment through
the practice of the Spiritual Exercises, of
the cultural and recreative activities and
the placement office.

The desire of Vicenta Maria
was that the " girls may learn to
read, write and count " and the written words of
Madre Maria Teresa Orti: " what I would like to carry
out though I see it difficult, is a night
school for the servants and the workers",
they speak to us of the desire to prepare
culturally a young woman, as a principal means to
elevate the social level of the domestic service.
Vicenta Maria did not come to know the
night schools in the house of the Congregation.
It was Maria Teresa Orti, who realized this
and many other desires of the Mother Foundress and would
do the apostolic reality of the Institute.

The preoccupation for the cultural and
professional formation has been adapting
through time and according to the
circumstances of the place, to the valid
standard of the official teachings.
We try to respond to a " professional formation
" according to the needs of the new social
situation and of the new image of the women-worker.

The Religious of Mary Immaculate
shares with the lay in a climate of communion the Charism of the Institute in its spirituality and mission and make reality of
today the conviction of St. Vicenta Maria.

On the
30th of October celebrates the " the Day of
International Alphabetization ".
The
Congregation is distinguished in Madrid,
Spain with the reference in the office of the
Ministry of Science and Education, as an
acknowledgement of the work in the formation of
the youth and adults.
